The Northeast Illinois Council, Boy Scouts of America (NEIC), offers the BSA Cub Scouting program to youth in underserved areas of Lake County through the Discover Scouts Outreach Program. This initiative collaborates closely with schools, students, and families in under-resourced communities. NEIC, BSA has dedicated staff members who deliver Cub Scouting programs to interested youth during recess or after-school hours at no cost, and they mentor parents who volunteer to lead the Scouting program. The primary goal is to ensure that all young people, regardless of financial challenges, have equal access to the BSA Cub Scouting program.
Presently, the Discover Scouts Program serves 461 youth across seven schools in North Chicago, Waukegan, and Zion, IL. This outreach effort has shown positive results in these schools, with fewer absences reported on days when the program is available.
Funds raised at The Youth Leadership Breakfast support the Discover Scouts Outreach Program by providing Cub Scouting supplies like notebooks, paint, markers, uniforms, camping gear, extracurricular activities, and camperships.
The Youth Leadership Breakfast is an annual celebration to acknowledge exceptional individuals and organizations in our community who have made a positive impact on the lives of youth. The NEIC recognizes these leaders and their contributions towards nurturing the minds, safety, health, and talents of today’s youth.
The Youth Leadership Breakfast provides a unique opportunity for members of the community to come together in celebration while supporting the Discover Scouts Outreach Program of the Northeast Illinois Council, Boy Scouts of America.
